Hope is home again in Bramble and not sure about this identical twin sister thing. She's forced to watch her high school sweetheart (and backup) marry her twin sister she never knew about. Everyone expects Hope to be brilliant and settle down with a proper man, but Hope feels set adrift when local badboy Colt breezes back into town. I loved the interplay between Hopr and Colt throughout the book and how Hope and Faith's relationship starts to become deeper. A great second book in the series!Tags : Make Mine a Bad Boy (Deep in the Heart of Texas) [Katie Lane] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. THERE'S A NEW BRIDE IN TOWN! Wonderful book with surprising twists and turns. You won't want to put the book down until you've finished this love story.
Hope Scroggs is feeling sorry for herself at her twin sisters wedding. Faith got the guy, the house, the life she always dreamed about. Then in walks Colt Lomax (Shirlene's brother) who walks up to the bride and plants one on her.. Hope sees red and tells him to get his filthy hands off her sister. Seems Colt thought Faith was Hope.
To keep Colt in town his sister has the sheriff arrest him and later that night Hope just walks to the police station in her pj's to let him out. After a mix up Hope gets locked in with Colt and they have to share the bed for the night. At this moment you know there is some history between these two. But since he was known as the town bad boy and her the town's precious good girl these two butt heads alot.
As the story progresses we find out what the history is between these two and that it goes all the way back to their childhoods. I loved watching these two together. I really liked Faith and Slate story but I have to say I loved Colt and Hope's.
Follow-up to "Going Cowboy Crazy." This humorous romance is book 2 in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series. Not QUITE as enjoyable as the first book in the series, but I still enjoyed it.
To clarify, I really LIKE the concept of a series. A series feels 'better' (to me) than reading one bigger book with potentially more diverse and complex story-lines. When I'm reading a romance, I'm enjoying the simplicity of a good, quick, feel-good story. LOL. Reading the two books, back-to-back, sort of reminded me of watching the TV series, "Dallas" in the 80's! Keeping the cast from the first book and building story lines around the secondary characters from book one expands and adds a richness to the stories without adding complexity. I didn't like the nickname, "Hog," for Hope, tho...just sayin'...it's insensitive to tag a kid with a nickname like that, even in a book, and it was repeated ENDLESSLY throughout the story, to the point of annoyance!
Recently, I've been feeling unfulfilled by the contemporary romance books I've been purchasing from random authors. I started a hunt to find my next Lori Wilde/Rachel Gibson/Jill Shalvis/Toni Blake. I am happy to report that I HAVE FOUND HER! Katie Lane is in the same level as the authors I just mentioned. Her books contain great imagery, storytelling, character depth (and development) and a Texas setting does not hurt either!
I absolutely loved this realistic book. Both the heroine and hero are awesome characters that most will identify with. Hope's jealousy over her sister (her sisters story is Book 1 of the series) was SO SO SO real. I'm glad Ms. Lane did not just brush around family issues under some big umbrella of everyone in a family gets along. Colt's tattoos were everything for me, love hearing about a boy who steps up to take care of his business and is humble and wants to fight for "his" woman.
If you want well written, quality contemporary romance novels then Katie Lane (and the other authors I mentioned) are for you! I've also read 'Catch Me a Cowboy' (Book 3) and I loved it. I didn't bother with Book 1 because Faith's character annoyed me to no end in this book and Slate comes off like a dumb jock so I'm glad I read this book first and didn't judge the series off of Book 1.
Keep it up, Ms. Lane!
Make Mine a Bad Boy is book two in the A Deep Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane, and I have to say with each book this series gets better. I originally started out reading book one and two so I could read and review book three. I am so glad I got my hands on this series!! They are an absolute delight. I am a born and raised Louisiana gal, but have spent a lot of my time over the border in Texas with family. I have to say Katie captured a Texas town almost perfectly. Some of it is a tad stereotypical, but I think it adds to the story.
We first met Hope in the last quarter of the first book, and to say she is the sweet heart of Bramble is almost an understatement. She is a fireball of energy and temper, and uses that feistiness to hide her insecurities. At the beginning you kind of want to shake her and say get over yourself. The book opens with her as the maid-of-honor at her twin sister Faith's wedding to Slate, and Hope is none too happy about the wedding, although she does try to hide it. Slate was supposed to be HER backup plan, and wait for her to come back. She kinda ignores the fact that he is more like a brother to her, because he is the perfect shield against the feeling she has always had for the town bad boy, Colt Lomax. Hope and Colt are oil and water, but they come together with the chemistry of fire and gasoline. Lawd have mercy! They end up half nekid before they even realize it, BUT have bad luck when it comes to timing. They get interrupted in the craziest of places.
Colt was from the wrong side of the tracks, and he let the town's opinion of him form his bad boy image. He didn't let his self believe that he could be good enough for Hope, so he was the one to give her hell growing up. He didn't want to stick around town, and watch the only woman he loved marry the town golden boy. So he left town right after high school, but did the town think he was out there making a good living. NO they thought he just got out of prison. Little does the town know that he is a successful custom motorcycle builder in California. Can the town and Hope forget his past to see the man he is today?? Can he open his self up to the possibly of rejection, and tell Hope how he has always felt about her??
I absolutely love this series. Like with the first book the town's people play as much a part of the story as the main characters. They over hear a conversation between Faith and Slate, and due to miscommunication come to think Hope is pregnant and jilted by the father. They hire a bounty hunter to head out to California, and track down the missing daddy. This leads to some funny scenes! This book had me laughing out loud, and grabbed onto my heart hard. I have to say I am a lot in love with Colt myself, but who wouldn't love a sexy bad boy cowboy with tattoos that rides a motorcycle!!!!! I highly recommend this book and series!!
