The Dog Who Was There Ron Marasco Books

Barley has it rough at first, then he finds a good home with a couple who follow the man from Galilee. Thru an unexpected turn of events Barely finds himself alone on the outskirts of Jerusalem. There he sees “Jesus” up-close and personal. Barley calls him “The kind man.”

He notices how people treat “the teacher from Galilee” (that’s what his master called him). Some people loved him and tried to apply he’s teachings to their lives. Others wanted to harm him. Barely watched this man share a love he hadn’t witness before.

A woman explains how Barley’s not desperate like some people she knew. “Prisca laughs and says, “this little one doesn’t despair.” She rubs Barley’s belly. “He’s always looking for the next good thing. A hand to lick, some food to chomp, a stuck to fetch, a sight to see, a friend to curl up next to.”

The retelling of the greatest story ever told will have you see familiar events with fresh eyes. It’s an endearing and inspirational tale dealing with themes of forgiveness, struggles to survive, ordinary people facing hard situations with a new-found courage and experience an unforgettable love. I liked how this author put in a few surprises for readers along this dog’s journey thru Jerusalem. Barley is a charmer, he grows on you. You’ll be moved by what he sees and how he interprets it. I liked how this novel was written through Barely the dog’s eyes.

The Dog Who Was There Ron Marasco Books Reviews

At times you are lucky enough to come across a book that just moves you in special ways. this is one such story. If you love the Lord and also love dogs, don't miss this one.
Barley is just a scruffy little pup that has seen his mother killed and escaped death narrowly himself. His life is destined for something that he is not aware of. The book takes you through all the trials and tribulations of a basically homeless dog and all the 'masters' he encounters. You might say that he was a castaway, much like some humans are.
But just as a Christian's life leads them to the foot of the cross, Barley finds himself there ---at the Crucifixion of Christ.
Follow Barley on his travel. Along the way you will laugh and you will cry. You will see the best in men and the worst. But,'Oh the cross' and what he and other outcasts share. with the Master of all.
The last couple of chapters are gripping, surprising and wonderful. What a simply wonderful, uplifting story.
I am only on chapter 2 and am so upset by this chapter I will not even continue to read. I bought this book thinking that as a dog lover I would be able to enjoy a "Christian" story from the viewpoint of my favorite species on earth. I am so tensed up and distraught over the "first bad experience" of the dog that I don't even want to read any longer. I am not sure what this scene has to do with the rest of the story and I guess I'll never find out. I read books for enjoyment, not for witnessing cruel and unprovoked violence.
I enjoyed reading the story of Jesus’ crucifixion from a totally different perspective, that of a little dog, Bailey. Bailey’s journey crosses paths with Jesus’ twice, once when Jesus was riding the donkey into Jerusalem, and second when Jesus carried his cross to Golgotha. Bailey’s instincts are to greet people with a wagging tail, give them second chances and to chose love first, all things Bailey sees in the Kind Man and the people who are following him.

Although Bailey endures cruelty at the hands of humans, he also enjoys great compassion and love from his masters. Through his masters, I learned more about life in Roman-occupied Jerusalem. Ron Marasco does a great job of painting a picture of the time and place.
I really enjoyed this book. However, it starts out with the dog being a puppy so you have to get about half way through the book before he begins to cross paths with Jesus. I consider it one of my favorite books that I will keep for a long time. There is also a surprise ending.
The innocence and loving nature of a dog watching what happened to Jesus and what He taught is perfect. I could not put this book down. It embodies the love Jesus taught, the positive outlook of a true believer in good, and most of all undying faith in our Lord. I just wanted to keep walking with Barley as he discovered the world from his perspective of love, joy and faith. This is not an deep religious book. It is much more because it is based on innocent faith that we all can have if we give ourselves the opportunities to know Him. Thank you for this book to the author and please write more. God bless all of us who read this book and leave with a feeling of joy in our hearts Because He Lived!!!
This book is a great example of what good Christian fiction should be. It's actually one of the best Christian novels I've ever read. Since I've written 5 of them myself (and working on #6), it's hard to impress me in this genre.

It seems to me that so much of the homogenized fiction drivel coming from Christian publishers has actually been in need of an upgrade for many years. "The Dog Who Was There" fits and exceeds that bill very, very well. Most importantly, it has a very unique perspective for the telling of the story and a very clear gospel message that fits that perspective exceedingly well.

The author's writing is outstanding, and I was cheering and crying along the way as this book touched my heart as both an ardent follower of Jesus Christ and a huge dog lover.

Go get a copy of this book now. I listened to the audio version on MP3, which the author narrates.

Note... I was neither provided a copy nor do I know the author. I just appreciate what a fellow Christian fiction author has come up with. Well done!
