I have never read a Gay male book, where they are the main characters. I thought I that I wouldn't be comfortable at all and have avoided them. However, I got so caught up the series, I read this. Before I go on, I have read some of the really negative reviews and one really made me Laugh Out Loud, the reader apparently has never spent a whole lot of time around gay people.Anyway, I didnt think you could top Darling's story, Cloak and Silence made me cry. When you stop to think about the brutal way these two characters were treated, it wasn't too long ago that being homosexual was a criminal offense, almost worldwide. In some cultures going to jail was safer than having their family find out, this story hits home.
As for the sex, I don't read the sex in most books, I never found anything that was any more explicit or detailed than any other book of Sherilyn's and a whole lot more freaking tasteful than most of the crap being written these days.
Wonderful book, made me cry

Cloak Silence The League Series Book 6 edition by Sherrilyn Kenyon Romance eBooks Reviews
I adore Sherrilyn Kenyon's The League. The characters are so deep and emotionally damaged. The stories are compelling, and the world-building is rich. After Darling and Zarya's book, I was so interested to see the story of Maris and Ture, their best friends. Unfortunately, this story left a bit to be desired. Maris has a long and tortured past, and I feel we barely scraped the surface of it. I felt their relationship happened in a series of "they spent time together" sweeping descriptions. I wanted to see more of it and how it built.
And then there was the sexy times. While fairly explicit, there were things that felt off to me. Most striking and pull me out of the story moment was the lack of lube. I won't say more, but it really bothered me. I read a fair amount of m/m, so maybe I'm just hyper-aware of certain things. There was also some seemingly off choreography. There was a case of the disappearing clothes. It was commented on after the fact, but it bothered me as it was happening. I had a "wait, what? How is this possible? Isn't he still wearing at least pants???" moment.
Overall, it's a sweet story, and I quite love Maris and Ture together. It just fell short for me in what I've come to expect from The League books.
This review was first posted on Goodreads.
I love the men of the League Nemesis Rising and of all the men, I love Mariss the best. As I read Born in Silence, I so wanted his story to be written, and here it is. I actually did something I've only done a few times and read this three times, back to back to back.
Mariss is the only homosexual of his species that he is aware of and like all of the men of the Sentella, he was dragged through hell and came out shining brightly. He joins the rest of the Sentella in rescuing Ture and Darling Cruel's wife. There is an instant connection between Ture and Mariss. One that blossoms as they fit into each other's lives, meeting each other needs and trying to survive the multiple bounties on Mariss's head, most of them from his own family. This is a deep and thrilling romance. The only thing I didn't like was the long apology/warning that Ms. Kenyon had to give because this is the story of two men. I long to read a story as deep between a man and a woman - oh wait, that would be the rest of the League stories. I actually prefer the Sentella to the Dark-Hunters because they are very mortal, which makes them all the much romantic for the risks they take for their loved ones.
This book is a true love story and one of the best of books of Sherrilyn Kenyon's League series. This book can be read as a standalone.
Maris Sulle of the Sentella is alone. He loves Darling Cruel who is happily married, expecting father and a fellow member of the Sentella. Past relationships have failed due his devotion to Darling Cruel. That changes on a rescue mission and he meets someone unexpected.
This is the story of Maris and Ture Xans and how they came together. It is filled with dangers and misunderstandings. I love this book!
Sherrilyn Kenyon, does child abuse, pain, and degradation to a science, I am never amazed how much she goes in and pulls out all the low self-esteem, self-loathing, anger, due to being neglected, verbally and physically abused by authoritarian or neglectful parents and others All of her characters in the childhood stage develop with all the negative form of development, Mistrust, shame & doubt, guilt, inferiority, identity confusion, and isolation. I loved hearing the story of Maris and Ture, you get glimpses of them throughout the other books, but you learn how they became parents.
I love Sherrilyn Kenyon. I love this series. I hate this book. It is kind of horrid. I applaud Kenyon for approaching gay subject matter in a more mainstream series. But, the way the men talk to each other? It would be annoying if only one of them was talking that way, and was a woman. Even though it is not my favorite thing, we expect women to be a little sappy in books. This is is so bad though--if I read one more sweetie, baby, honey, whatever, I might cry. And she feminized all the men (and even women) in this one. Gay, straight, other. I mean, these are really tough and rough men-tough and rough men can be sentimental, and loving, but this was way, way sappy. And it is not in line with the rest of the series. And the two male leads...I wanted them to be real, and they were just stereotypes. She even ruined Darling. Made him a jerk, really. Made him kind of a "I don't want you that way, but I don't want you to be with anyone else either" controlling ass. Which is sad, as I liked Darling before. And, I am not one that has to have sex in a book-either way is fine. But if you are going to do it, then do it justice. I don't know if she didn't know how to write it, or was worried about going too far, or was just uncomfortable. But, for all the decent scenes in the other books, these were glossed over. If you are going to do a book of this nature, then do a book of this nature. It's not fair to the story to gloss over part of it. It was almost like she tried, but just couldn't bring herself to go all the way with it.
I have never read a Gay male book, where they are the main characters. I thought I that I wouldn't be comfortable at all and have avoided them. However, I got so caught up the series, I read this. Before I go on, I have read some of the really negative reviews and one really made me Laugh Out Loud, the reader apparently has never spent a whole lot of time around gay people.
Anyway, I didnt think you could top Darling's story, Cloak and Silence made me cry. When you stop to think about the brutal way these two characters were treated, it wasn't too long ago that being homosexual was a criminal offense, almost worldwide.
